The three barriers to embodiment

I wanted to take a moment to discuss the challenges and barriers that may prevent us from being in our body, as well as normalise your experience if you find it difficult.

There are three common things that may prevent us from feeling, listening and noticing our inner landscape:

  1. Stress and anxiety

  2. Overload or an inability to cope

  3. Trauma

These are things that most of us will experience in our lifetime and are simply part of being human.

The journey back home to my body is something I have to practice daily. It doesn’t come easily to me. My tendency is to disconnect and contract. Some days (and even weeks) I find myself so far from home, drowning in a sea of thoughts and distraction. My nervous system in a state of disarray.

But I know how vital coming home to my body is. Because in the moments I do arrive I can feel a deep wisdom waiting to be rediscovered. I find intimacy with the present moment that I am normally missing.

This post is mainly to normalize how hard it can be to drop into your body and how past/current experiences, not to mention western conditioning, all make the journey home a little more difficult but not impossible.

In the next article, I will share tips on how you can increase your capacity to deal with the impacts of these three barriers.
