What is Somatic Meditation?

Somatic Meditation refers to bringing your awareness to the internal sensations of your body while you are meditating. This might include breath rhythms, your heartbeat, muscle action or the sensation of energy moving.

If you take a moment right now and check in - What are you sensing in your body? Sense your breath, the temperature of your face, the pace of your heart. Notice what you can feel and even what you cannot feel. Do you feel active or empty? Where is the energy moving?

When we are disconnected from the messages our body is sending us it can be hard to tune into the important information the body is sending us. This can impact our state of calm, our energy levels, the way we interact with others and the experience of being in the present moment.

It is important to remember that our behaviours, feelings and beliefs come from a place of survival and approaching somatic based explorations with curiosity and compassion can support us to stay with the experience.

The more you practice listening to your body’s signals (and befriending them) the easier it is to be in better relationship with our nervous system and make better more supportive life choices.
