The Land as my teacher

The wet season is ebbing and flowing here on Gubbi Gubbi country. Butterflies are abundant and so too are the caterpillars and grasshoppers that are devouring some of our plants. The grasses are getting quite long and the weeds are popping up faster than we can remove them.

I have noticed my frustration grow as these beings have their way with the garden. I can see my tendency to want to control and have things perfect, for things to be linear and to follow my plan of success.

As I write this I can feel the land and other-than-human ones laughing (in a loving way of course!). Teaching my colonial brainwashed mind a lesson in surrender and reverence. And I am listening, watching and whispering back.

Instead of dominating the land I am choosing the land as my teacher. Instead of wanting all the food from my garden (when I will not go hungry) I am sharing it with those beings who are also seeking nourishment. Instead of feeling separate from I am beginning to cultivate a relationship with this land. Learning my role and how I can support all of us to thrive.

It got me thinking about how this translates to the way we treat the landscape of our own body. The violence we inflict to ensure that we can be a good worker for the capitalist machine. Ensuring we achieve this notion of ‘success’ at almost all costs.

I am curious….are you allowing the body to be your teacher or guide?
Are you nourishing it in the ways in desperately needs?
Listening to it’s whispers?
What is the quality of the relationship you have with your body and how would you like it to be?

If you are ready to start cultivating a relationship with your body and the land you are on then join me for one of my online somatic movement meditation class or women’s gatherings.
